A key part of the Fast-track regime is the role of expert panel members in considering applications and making decisions to approve or decline and impose any conditions.
To assist the panel convener in their appointment of panel members, the Fast-track team is identifying a pool of potential candidates with knowledge, skills, and expertise relevant to the variety of approvals being handled through the Fast-track process.
What we’re looking for
Expert panels must include members with technical expertise relevant to a project, expertise in environmental matters (and where relevant, conservation), and an understanding of te ao Māori and Māori development.
Industries of particular relevance to the projects likely to be considered through Fast-track include aquaculture and farming; housing and land development (residential, industrial/commercial, tourism); infrastructure (transport, marine, water, public and energy); mining and quarrying; and renewable electricity generation.
The panel convener also appoints a chair from among the members of each panel. In addition to the considerations above, the chair must be a suitably qualified lawyer or planner with experience in relevant law.
Fast-track Approvals Act 2024 No 56, Public Act Schedule 3 Expert panel – New Zealand Legislation
